Empress Menen

Princess Mrs(Woizero) now Empress Menen was born in March 25,1883 in Wollo province Abasssel Region at 'Egua' area from her father 'Janitar' Asfaw and her mother 'Woizero' Sehin Michael. She was baptized in St. Delba George Church. Her Christian name was 'Wolete Giorgis'. her name 'Mene' is given for hte most beautful of respect ladies. 'Princess Woizero now Empress Mene was grown well by her parents, then she had gotten an instrutor at home like the formed 'Lords' and Dukes sons and daughters. Empress Menen learned her native language, Amharic and also the reading and writing of it. Her Amharic teachers were Maduna and Father Workineh. Beyond academic education she has learnt home economics and spinning as Ethiopian tradition. Since she has the best knowledge of house hold management people called her the head woman.

 

Empress Menen is a charming lady and no one can compete with her. In 1892 she married legally and born 2 daughters and 2 sons. These are 'Woizero Belaynesh, "Jantiror Asfaw, "Jantirar' Gebre Egziabher and Woizero Desta.

    In Nov.5 1903 she started a journey from Dessie and reached Nov.25 1903 in Addis Ababa. In the same year in June the then 'Dejazmach Tafari' now Majesty Emperor Haile Selassie I King of Ethiopia married her. Lij Iyasu was responsible and made them a couple.

I am pleased to present my speech to all world women. When Italy conquered our people and country the world women Association supported us to settle peace and freedom. We are very happy to express our deep feeling for the association.

When I am speaking now in order to be understood to all countries my daughter Princess Tsehay translated my speech into English language.   Princess Tsehay made speech as follows. During this time Italy conquered us difficulty unjustly and world women should hear their voice. Even though world women are living different countries with different climate, all women are interrelated with the same will and objectives.

Fundamental Goals for the

Daughters of Haile Selassie I

 

 

ü      To encourage every woman to give ises to HaileSelassie I from the Theocractic foundation.

ü      To promote inity within the Rastafari congregation.

ü      To promote the development of raspect, knowledge, and the itritcal powers of the Rastafari woman.

ü      The restore the Omega balance within the Rastafari movement.

ü      To work toward the Rastafari woman fulfilling her prophetical roles as "Woman clothed with the Sun".

ü      To review and analyze the traditional and prophetical role of the Rastafari woman and eliminate barriers placed in her path to prevent her from fulfilling herself as a hola woman.

ü      To visit and assist Rastafari iyatas who are ill, and Iyatas with young infants. To provide adequate nourishment for these sisters.

ü      To fulfill the Rastafari creed which states: "The hungry be fed, the naked clothed, the sick nourished, the aged protected, and the infant cared for." To establish a trust fund toward carrying out this work.
